The Saudi Astronomy Team won three bronze medals in the International Olympiad in Astronomy and Astrophysics (IOAA2024) held in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. This achievement marks the end of a long and eventful journey in which high school students were prepared through training camps organized in collaboration between the Communications, Space, and Technology Commission (CST) and the King Abdulaziz and His Companions Foundation for Giftedness and Creativity (Mawhiba).


The Olympiad witnessed high competitiveness from various countries around the world, with the p​articipation of 260 students representing 53 countries. The Saudi team, represented by Fajr Al-Obaidan, Hussein Al-Mubarak and Jude Al-Luhyani, achieved bronze medals after qualifying stages and more than 500 hours of training and conducting several aptitude tests in the fields of astronomical observation of celestial bodies and solving scientific problems in the areas of celestial mechanics, astrophysics, and cosmology

CST’s role as a regulator in the Space sector offers a variety of training and educational programs that prepare national talents to keep pace with the rapid developments in the field and unlock promising opportunities in Space.
