The Communications and Information Technology Commission (CITC) announces that its Decision number 325 on “Regulating the sale and activation of pre-paid SIM cards” will take effect on 31 July 2012.

According to the Decision, no pre-paid SIM cards will be charged, recharged, or balance transfer unless the subscriber enters his/her ID number followed by the recharge number. More importantly, the ID number entered must correspond to the ID number provided by the subscriber to the service provider at the time of SIM purchase.

To keep pre-paid SIM cards activated, the subscriber's information provided to the service provider must be verified, valid and up-to-date.
